An Ahhhhh Moment

The other morning Sarina came into the kitchen clutching a book to her chest and yelling book, book. She then took Ben by the hand, led him down to the family room and asked him to read to her. Ahhhhh, it was a moment to make Mommy so happy. They sat on the floor and Ben read books. Then he bragged that he could read the books without out even looking at the words. So much for my hope that he would find some reading practice time with his sister. He is determined to learn to read without having to look at the words. Yes, Ben must do things his own way. You might have guessed that we are working on our reading. He was very happy to get a reward for reading more than one hundred minutes last month. We still love our reading time. I just wish he would look at the words a little more than the pictures. We are playing a new Ispay game where we spy letters and numbers. I enjoy this much more than the usual Ispy with Ben. Before he just made things up that he saw otherwise it was too easy for me to guess.

Why does this sound so familiar??? Ethan also wants to take short cuts for learning things. He is bored already of soccer because it's not yet "real" soccer. I fear this boy is going to end up taking the "get rich quick" road of life. He doesn't want the journey, just the destination!

Who told you that boy's took the usuall way?
Boy's ( much like men who throw out the instructions first)and look for the quick easy way to do something and then wonder what to do with the left over parts.
The only way I got Michael Joseph to stop reading the pictures was to get him some books about things we was interested in that had no or very few pictures.
