Ben sat down and wrote me a letter the other day. He wanted to do it all by himself without asking how things are spelled. He sounded out all the words and wrote them down. I think he did a pretty good job for his first letter. He also wrote Grammy a birthday card on his own. Now a days he is into phonics. We are often asked to guess what word he is going to say by his sounding out the first letter for us. We have also started a list of words he can read now. He has me add new words several times a day. It's not easy to sound out words. For instance the sounds of "Ba" "uh" "nn" yielded a guess of "cat" for some odd reason. But we keep trying.
