Over the last month or so I've put on about five pounds. Gee, how could this of happened. It can't be that my exercising has decreased while my eating has increased. So I eat crusty bread with butter and I keep making muffins. Ok, I go to the coffee shop about three times a week. I only ate half a cupcake last time. Then I went home and made carrot cake with Ben but that was his idea!
Obviously curbing my appetite is not working for me right now so I have gone on to Plan B. Plan B is to get up at 6am and run for half an hour before I take Ben to school (you can stop laughing now). Every great exercise program starts with purchasing the proper attire. At least mine do. So I went off to REI's big winter sale to buy trail running shoes and special socks and of course those important water wicking clothes. Of course only the shoes were on sale. So almost two hundred dollars poorer I am now ready to run outside in the mornings.
I needed to take a trial run with my new attire to see if it was warm enough and the shoes wouldn't pinch my feet after a few steps so I took Ben out for a run this morning. My goal was to make it around the block, including up the big hill. Ben trailed behind me telling me (of all people) to slow down. I had to jog in place to let him catch up with me. I have to say that having him along was a nice excuse to take it easy but actually I find it hard to run that slow! He will not be going with me in the mornings.
So Plan B is off to a fine start. Now all I have to do is get up at 6am. Easy Peasy. Piece of cake. Damn did someone say cake!
UPDATE:
Got off to a fine start this marning. Ben starts school late on Mondays so I didn't have to get up early. Ran twice around the block and let me tell you it is DAMN cold out there today. Anyway, twice around the block is ONE mile! Hurrah, got my first mile in. Now I really need a shower.

Good Luck on the running in the morning. I am assumeing the new outfit worked out for you.
I may half to start calling you Sam-a-girl like I did her when she was little. She always had to half just the right outfit for sports.
HAHA lvu
OH good thing you did buy those clothes...they really help! I'm so jealous my sis is running and I'm NOT! next thing ya know you'll be telling me you signed up for a 5K!! Running REALLY takes the lbs. off. You'll be back down in no time. LUV YA...ahh put Ben on the bike next time that's what I did with Mikey until he was 9 and could out run me ;-)
I'm jealous: our schools CLOSE on President's Day and I was stuck watching Cartoon Network's Pokiman President's Day all morning. Then we realized that Kyra's science fair project is basically due tomorrow, so we've (I use that term loosely...) been working on it for the past 7.5 hours. Nope, we're not remotely done and it's almost dinner. And poor Ethan... Well, his daddy took him to OMSI for a few hours while Kyra and I dealt with formating (and finishing writing up) her various pictures and text. We have been printing and trimming for a good 2 hours. Amazing how much time it takes. Good thing I bought that paper trimmer....
PS: Don't panic: a 5 lb gain is just adjustment for maintenance. You are doing EXACTLY the right thing in recalibrating your exercise and "treats" ratio. Good job!!!!
Serenity now! said...
Hey, at least you got out! I think it's great that you and Jason are on a team together. Mark and I should do somethinglike that. We are going to do a bike charity ride together this summer but it would be nis=ce to have a weekly thing that was just us.
MOm thinks you chould try something once a week that Mark Picks. That is how we go-carted and pretty soon it got more fun for me and Dad went boweling with me.
