First Day of School

Ben went off to his first day of school on Wednesday. We rode the tandem bike and he loved that. He also loved packing his own lunch. When we got to school I went in with him and we hung up his coat and put his lunch box with the others. Then I hugged and kissed him good-bye. Usually he asked for more hugs but he just stood there with a stunned look on his face as if to say "I can't believe you are leaving me here!" I walked out and he just stood there so I stood behind the door and peeked and the teacher led him over to the circle area. All the while he had the same stunned look on his face. I felt so bad but what to do. It's the first day of kindergarten! I worried all day but when I picked him up after school he came out smiling and said he loved it! He did complain that we had packed too much for him to eat and we had somehow included a peanut item and no peanuts are allowed as he has an allergic classmate.

Three days in and he still has not complained although this morning he said he liked his preschool better because he went less days and didn't stay as long. This is going so much better than I imagined. I thought for sure he would refuse to go back on the second day but he has told three other people that he loves school. He will not however talk to Mark about school. He has had his first picture sent home and I hung it up. I think I will keep for him.

In the afternoons Sarina, Molly and I go pick him up. So myth busters for first day of school are that Mommy and boy will cry. Nope, neither of us did. Myth buster number two: The child will be so tired he will start taking naps again. Oh, how I wish. He is so wired after school. And hungry as they have lunch at 10:50! We've been eating dinner before 5 and that has never happened here before. So far we have adjusted to the schedule pretty well but my husband reminds me that now he will be used to getting up early and so no sleeping in on the weekend. Drat. I do like having more time in the evening though. And I've gotten lots of housework done. Yoohoo!

Ha you will never really sleep again. They will wakeup earlier, then they will stay out later and you'll still have to get up in the morning. Thank God they all go to school now. I can nap in the afternoon. Yes I am that old now. Gary and I have taken to napping in the afternoon. Lordy we are old!
Mikey, Sammi and now Clay have an afternoon snack at school.
Glad he's doing so well. Clay is doing super.

Napping in the afternoon. That's the only time I can read a book! Ben is doing great and has brought home lots of artwork. Soon my house will be plastered with it. Not that he doesnt' have stuff hanging up from home already. I need to start a system of storing and rotating art I think.
