Today Ben is going to try the hot lunch for the first time. He is so excited. He even sang a song about it last night at bedtime. He kept reminding me not to pack a lunch! Oh the excitement of hot lunch. They are having chicken nuggets of course or he would not be so excited. He is not thrilled at the idea of chilled pears but said he would eat the corn. Plus they get a cookie! I have to admit to a little trepidation on my part. I was afraid that he wouldn't know how to get through the line but he said he knew all about hot lunch and getting his own tray.
He is such a big boy now. We have been taking his bike to school rather than riding the tandem. Last week we were late twice so I had to set down a time limit when we had to leave the house in order for him to ride on his own. Today we were all set to go when he decided he needed just one more minute so he could draw a picture. He was so mad when I said no. We must have argued half way to school over that. It takes us well over 20 minuets when he rides since he cannot make it up the hill and spends some time just trying to pedal and then refusing to get off the bike preferring to try to push the bike with his feet while he sits on the seat still. I swear the hill takes us five minutes alone. We did make it on time today though. Our days of riding may be numbered. Despite our new biking hats and gloves it is danged chilly out there and he complained that his face was cold. I was a bit cold too and need to break out the long underwear I think.
Tomorrow Sarina has a play date luncheon and Halloween party with a friend. She will dress up in her costume for the first time. I can't wait to see how she likes that. She will be a purple park monster. Ben wants to be a pumpkin of all things. Not sure I will find a costume to fit him. I thought of trying the pumpkin garbage bags but really can't see him being happy when I stuff it with newspaper. Today we will go look at costumes. Hopefully we will find something he will like.

Clay is going to be a skeleton. We got his costume at the CVS pharmacy. I won't be here for trick - or - treat. I'll be in Orlando for a big Zumba Instructor convention. JUST ME! Our days are still in the low 60's ;-)
OMG! Your struggle with Ben sounds just like mine this morning with Ethan!
On days he actually sleeps in, I wake him at 8. Somehow we usually get to school on time with just 30 minutes to prepare to leave. This morning he was whiny and insisted on drawing before he would consider dressing or having breakfast. Of course with such little flex in our schedule I had to say no, first things first. That went over well ("you're mean!!!") After brooding for 15 minutes, he finally got it together and we left only 4 minutes late (I like to have enough time to be able to park and walk him to the stairs of school, rather than have to drop off in the drop off area, which is always a zoo). I can only imagine if I let him ride a bike to school. No way!!
Anyway, I'm determined to get him to bed on time tonight. I don't think he's caught up yet from the other night when he was kept up till 9:30. Last night, with soccer practice, he again went to bed after 8. Sigh.
Hope you find the pumkin.
I am sure he got down the lunch just fine, he really is very independant when he wants to be.
Sarina will have a great time if everyone remembers to say hello, feed her and say good by. A slide or couch to show her tricks on would make her event complete.
