Could You Please Stop Poking Me Now

Went off to the Dr's today to see if he might have some respite to offer from my headaches. In the past I've tried meds to varying degreees of success but they all have their drawbacks. I thought I would see what the clever new young doc I"ve been seeing might have to offer. He suggested some numbing meds to the area of the neck that the headache seems to derive from. Hmmmmm...a new approach, how refreshing. I was up for it. Ok, this involved taking some shots to the neck muscle(s). Scary, nah, not until about the 4th shot or so then I was ready to scream Uncle! The Dr. said he was done anyway. Haven't really taken my neck for a test drive or anything but I"m feeling pretty good. Not all headache twitchy like I was this morning after waking three times in the night with flair ups so maybe the dr. does have a new trick that works. The real test will be tonight.

So I left the dr.'s office at 11:30, after getting there at 9:45, just in time to get home to have lunch and run over to our family travel clinic appointment. Yeehaaa, more shots. Ben had been home from school today still feeling under the weather but they said he could still come for the shots since he didn't have a high fever. Thank God, because trying to reschedule within this month is not easy. I already tried. Knowing Ben's weakened condition I did not tell him what the appointment was about. I mean he broke into tears when I suggested he might go to school this morning. On the ride there he asked the dreaded question..."Will I get a shot?" I considered lying but knew he would find out shortly anyway so I told him he would get two shots. Had I only known they didn't have flu shots for kids I could have saved myself some grief. It was a very long ride after that. He cried, pleaded and conjoled. But I was unrelenting. He then asked if the shot would at least make his cold go away. Man was he mad when he found out it would have no effect. Who can blame him. He has to get a shot for some other possible illness and nothing to get rid of the very real annoying cold he has now. It was too unfair. As a final last ditch effort he said "Mom, here's the deal. I don't get the shot and you can have my chocolate." A tempting offer but I had to pass it by. I will spare you the rest of the gory details. But Mark and I ended up with 3 shots. Ben got one and I get to take him somewhere else to get a child's flu shot. Lucky me! And so the saga continues.

Now Ben is laying on the couch hacking away. He has begged me to do something to help his "sucking nose" but he refuses to try anything I offer. He will not blow through his nose. That is just too crazy of an idea. He will not take any more meds. He's taken them over and over again. He will not try the honey and lemon I made for him. He will not even take a spoonful of honey. He is just the nastiest most unhappy patient I have ever met. God, I hope by a miracle he is better tomorrow.
