Help! There's a Cupcake in my Refrigerator!

And I can't stop thinking about it. Whew, I just popped a piece of gum in my mouth. That should help. Ben and I took a bike ride with his tagalong bike. It's a great thing and he is really excited about it. I had the neighbor girl stay with Sarina so Ben and I could have some time together. It was nice until he wanted to stop at the coffee shop. I had my unsweetened tea and he had chocolate milk and a HUGE cupcake. He unwrapped the cupcake and took one small bite. Then he decided that he wanted to take it home. Now it sits in the fridge calling my name. It looks very yummy. I really need to stop thinking about it. When Sarina gets up from nap I'm going to force feed it to them.

Yesterday I had a lunch meeting and they had those lovely box lunches from Panera. Damn them anyway. I ate my whole sandwich plus the chips but brought the overly large cookie home. Ben had one bite and declared it too big. I could not help having a bite but then I had to throw it away to keep myself from eating it. Really I can't bite something unless I intend to eat it all.

Last week I couldn't eat anything but rice and I gained two pounds. I really want to get back to losing. I was really on a roll there. Today I took a long walk and then two bike rides with Ben today. So I'm back in the exercise mode but feeling cravings I haven't had in weeks. Dang! Better get back to my healthy snacks.

Have you tried splenda? All my non-eating sisters rely on it, and it's really superior to other artificial sweeteners. Sometimes when I'm on the wagon I'll have splenda'ed mint ice tea in the evening if my dessert wasn't totally satisfying.

I can also have sugar free jello or sugar free/fat free fudgsicles or sugar free popsicles.

If you can't get the kids to eat the cupcake, you have my permission to put it in the garbage disposal... That's what I did last week to an almost full bag of Buffalo sauce flavored Goldfish. Kyra and Ethan didn't like them, and unfortunately I did, even tho they are weird and fatty tasting. So down the drain with them. It was a learning experience...

I read somewhere and discovered it to be true in myself that food cravings can be your body's way of telling you it needs a particular type of nutrient. Fat cravings can be your body's way of asking for Iron, so I'll give it some low-fat beef or chicken. Crunchy cravings can indicate a need for Vitamin A, so I'll have some carrots. Sweet cravings can mean it wants Vitamin C, so I'll have some whole fruit or a potato. 99% of the time, the cravings vanish. I know for myself, when I crave chocolate, if I have a nice, lean beef sandwich and some spinach, magically the craving disappears. I tend to have Iron-poor blood, so I am plagued by fat cravings if I'm not careful. If I really, really want chocolate, I'll have sugar-free pudding with a bit of real whipped cream on it. Smooth, creamy, sweet...but not too fattening.

A craving for something you know is there just because it's there is different. You're doing the right thing by throwing it away. The kids are not going to waste away because there are not fatty snacks in the house! Besides, the hydrogenated oils in those snacks are ruthless on the human body. NO one should be eating them. Just try to think of those hydrogenated oils as the toxins they are and they will become much less tempting.
