My Brother-In-Law is a Big Loser

I saw my BIL this weekend for the first time in months and let me just say he is half the man he used to be. Well not really half but almost half. He has lost one hundred pounds. To which I have to say "why the hell haven't I lost any weight", oh I mean "way to go Carl!" Harrumph....while I was sitting in Nepal eating my way through the nightly dessert table apparently Carl was back here literally working his butt off. Nice Carl. Way to go! Good for you. Must be so nice to be you. Great.

I am so jealous I was thinking of going on a diet and calling it the "I Hate Carl Because he Lost So Much Weight Diet" but I don't really hate Carl. I actually like him and am glad that he married my sister. Plus it's really hard to say all that. Besides if I wrote a book it wouldn't fit on the cover. So I guess I will just go a plain old diet and curse Carl every time I want to eat something and can't because he lost so much weight. Damn him. I've cursed him multiple times today. Like when I actually measured out two tablespoons of hummus to go on my four miserable crackers. Who the hell measures their hummus. Carl! That's who! Damn him. I bet he wouldn't have even eaten the hummus. Well damn him again. And why the hell are there only four crackers to a serving! Who the hell can live on four crackers! Maybe I'll call my diet the "Damn Carl Diet" and anyone who wants to join has to damn Carl every time they have to give up some food they love.

I"m starving now. Where's my measuring spoon. Damn that Carl!

Well, you could look at it this way: the less weight you have to lose the longer it takes, which might explain why it's taken me 8 years to lose 50 lbs, and half of that has crept back on in the last 2 years. Can I blame Carl, too, or is that a closed diet???

You might consider doing Core with Weight Watchers. I can eat all the hummus I want, but not on crackers. The crackers cost points so I eat it on carrots. I wonder if it would be any good on jicama... Like I've tried jicama...

Way to go, Carl!!! More power to you!

I confess that I, too, secretly curse Carl under my breath whenever I'm tempted to go back for seconds or dessert...and I'm not even overweight!!! I'd KILL for a trip to steakhouse right about now!

God bless him...he has done this all so he can live longer and be a better Daddy.

Well, I just curse everything and everyone. I have risen at 4:30 a.m. each weekday morning for five months to work out. Do you think I would lose wt.....NO not an ounce. In fact, all I have lost is sleep.

So I have given up on losing wt and I am pretending that I have the body of an 18 year old. This is working better for me. I just live a lie. My husband is going along with the lie. I love this guy.

Best of Luck to weight losers every where and YOU GO CARL!

Good for you!

Get Mark involved, too. Losing weight - and keeping it off - is a lifestyle change. So the more the family is involved, the easier it is to sustain.

And don't forget to exercise. Burning calories contributes much more towards weight loss than simply reducing intake.

I also found it invaluable to keep track of your daily calorie intake. I use a simple calorie counter software program. There are lot's of them out there; some really good inexpensive ones. A google search will return about a dozen. Most have free trial downloads.

And just imagine how much you'll be doing for your children by instilling in them healthy eating and exercise habits this early on in their lives.

So. Once again. Good for you!

To SIS#4 You go girl. You changed your life and have been slim for a long time now! Carl is awesome and I'm sure you have been a BIG help.

SIS#1 You won't loose weight if your gaining muscle. Check your inches lost and body fat% cause you looked great when you were here last.

To MOM (MUSE) Condiments...you've got to be joking. By the way SUGAR in cereal, coffee, regular soda BIG NO NO!

To Charyn: Please Please do not severly restrict your diet without exercise. You will loose muscle and that will only make you weaker and more tired.

TO ALL: you might not like it BUT I am a certified fitness trainer AND I've been doing this for years AND I LOVE ALL OF YOU. YOU CAN DO THIS CHARYN. Cheryl was smart she got a personal trainer. Don't just diet PLEASE

Yes, anyone can go on the "That Damn Carl Diet" however, we do not blame Carl. Rather, we curse him everytime we count a calorie or take a smaller portion or measure a serving. Why?! Because we know damn well that that damn Carl would do it. He would count and measure. Damn him. The key here is that I deserve to lose weight. Not Carl, but somehow he is losing weight and I am not. Damn him. The beauty of the diet is that it appeals to my most prevelent qualities--jealosy and competitiveness. If those are qualitie3s that you recognize in you then this diet is for you.

YOU GO MARK!
COMPETITION IS ON!! YOU GO CHARYN yes you do deserve to loose weight. Stress is a BIG cotributor to weight gain and you have had your share of it recently.

Carl doesn't actually measure most of what he eats, he just eats almost exclusively vegetables, 2 fruits, whole grains and 3 oz of meat a day. He doesn't measure the veggies or grains at all, just the meat and fruit.

Of course, he's had NO ice cream, cake, etc. for months and months. *cringes* If he does slip, he works out extra.
