One Afternoon Shot to Hell

Had our Dr's appointment yesterday afternoon. For some reason I thought that since I made the appointment for all of us to go to the travel clinic than this appointment would be just about checking Ben's ears before travel and what meds I might need to bring for Sarina. I know, I know, I blogged about Ben getting a shot so what was I thinking. I don't know. But the nurse came out holding a shot on a little tray and called Ben's name. Now I ask you what kind of way is that to greet a small child. Could she not put it in the room first! Yes, we got off to a great start. I think that was the high point of the visit. Ben protested and I had to hold him while she gave him the shot. He made it very clear that he did not want his underwear down. That was very upsetting to him so the underwear stayed up. Luckily she was fairly adept at giving shots quickly. Then she offered him a sticker and left the room so we were sitting waiting for the DR. and it occurred to me that they thought this visit was just for the shot so I tracked the nurse down and sure enough they were like "you can go now" and I pointed out that I needed to see the Dr. too. Yes, luckily for us she had an open appointment only one hour away and she was running 20 minutes late. As you all know it is so easy to entertain a child in a Dr.'s office. Oh, the happy joy that is. I decided to take Ben for a snack in the cafeteria. We had to cross over the skywalk which is very treacherous as the green stripes on the carpet hold biting, tickling crocodiles and the white strips cause you to fall in the flowing river of whirlpools. Just to keep you on your toes sometimes the crocodiles migrate to the purple stripes. Having negotiated the long and dangerous skywalk we took the elevator to the bowels of the Hospital to find a vending area whose sign clearly pointed in the opposite direction from where it actually was for some unknown reason. Ben declared it a very cool place and did not want to leave after our snack and then begged to come back after.

During our snack time in the bowels of the hospital Ben and I discussed that some people actually like to get shots but he is not one of them. WE also talked about how the shot attacks germs that try to get in your body. He was of the opinion that it made no sense to have more than one shot for that.

WE once again negotiated the skywalk where the biting crocodiles were now on the red carpet squares but luckily Ben had a method to kill them and therefor was immune. Mommy however had to jump over every red square. Why do they put patterned carpets in public places. They clearly dangerous. After all that it turns out that I do not need a prescription for scabies meds and she does not recommend any antibiotics for the children if they get diarrhoea, Gatorade will work fine. Hmmmmm....where did I hear that before. So glad I took the time. On the upside Ben's ears are clear and the scratchy spot on his butt just needs some cream.
