So today we thought that we would get our last signature on our file so that we could sign our adoption decree and get the hell out of this place. That was not to be. I called our facilitator to arrrange going to sign and she told me the Secretary that was to sign was going to be out of the country longer and would not sign until Sunday. As you can imagine we went through the roof. That would mean yet another week here on top of the one we already expect to spend. Not a great moment for us. I immediately called the embassy to complain and see if there was anything they could do. We fumed and fretted all day. Finally the embassy called back to say that the Secretary would be in tomorrow. I should let you know that this place is rife with rumors. I talked to each American family and they all had pretty much been told different things. It is so aggravating. So now once again, we wait until tomorrow. Stay tuned. It is a long and painful soap opera this. Bad theater at it's worst. Anyway we get to see whose info was the correct info tomorrow. It is very disheartening as we thought we had cleared the last hurdle. Now we wonder what will befall us each of the next steps as we have the Foriegn Ministry to deal with next. I just hope the American embassy is on our side. They've been helpful.
On the family front here Ben and Sarina are playing more together. She is actually warming up to him. He's been very loving to her but she has not really responded until now. Yesterday at dinner when he was laughing she started to laugh with him. She plays with him more. And today she has decided to start talking. She says cracker, and ice tea (which she loves) and Buddha and pretty and belly button. She does seem to have a rather limited vocabulary even in Nepali. Much closer to a one year old than a two year old but she is learning fast I think. And she weighs a ton now. I used to be able to carry her with one arm and now I cannot. Everyday it is funny how much she seems to be opening up to us. She loves to make faces at people and she is very ticklish. Too funny when she laughs. I can't wait for you all to meet her. If that ever happens. We may just look into property here.
Some of you received an email from me on a call to action to protest that the Nepali's are not processing adoption files. I really urge you to follow through on that if you can. If you did not get the email and would like to help email me and I will forward it to you. I know sister #1's bounced back as usual so some of you may not have gotten it due to some problem.
Once again, stay tuned to this channel same time same bat station for exciting and fun update in the trials and tribulations of a real Nepal adoption story. Best reality check show around.

Your B&N friend,

Tell us the names of the states where the other Americans live so that we can contact their legislators and newspapers.
It is important that all the Americans stick together on this.

Charyn, Sen. Kohl's office is sending me an email from his International Adoption Issues Department that they want me to forward to you so they can get more info to help you! I'm forwarding it when I get it to your Yahoo account, ok?
EMAIL SENT to your yahoo account from a caseworker assigned to us by Sen. Herb Kohl's office!
Soo sorry to hear your frustration. At least the children are bonding well. Hope this nightmare is over soon.
Sounds like a really disfunctional bureaucracy. Do you think someone in the Nepal Adoption Agency is looking for a little monetary "encouragement" to expedite the process?
be carefull Frank you sound like Charyn's father.
I have heard nothing back from the chicago trib.
Charyn's father sounds like a very pragmatic man :)
Do they have timeshares in Nepal? That would be interesting...
